Call to Artists
The On Root Project
invites artists visiting or locals to Haida Gwaii in 2017 to participate in the first annual Rooted exhibit.
We ask that you visit both an old growth forest and a clear cut forest then create a work of art that responds to this contrast. Our aim is to bring attention to the affects on the eco-system health by harmful logging practices on HaidaGwaii and hope that these works will start a conversation. We seek painting, photography, music, sculpture, writing and poetry.
Please submit high resolution images or samples of music/writing along with image list, contact information and bio (cv appreciated but optional) by DECEMBER 1, 2017 All work will be adjudicated January/February 2018 by the On Root collaborative team.
Selected works will be shown in a three phase exhibition: a) forest gallery in Old Masset, b) traveling show throughout BC and c) gallery show Skidegate. The artist will supply original work for the first and third phase and high resolution cards/posters/CD’s of their work for sale in the traveling show and both gallery shows. Both artists and the On Root
Project will share the profits of these sales.
The On Root Project is a four-phase, multi-layered, collaborative project aiming to mobilize communities to action. Rooted artist exhibition is the first layer of the collaboration and aims to call attention to current state of old growth forests and clear cut logging through the lens of the artist.
